MP4 to MP3

Can anyone help me find software to change audio files from MP4 to MP3? I googled and found alot of stuff, but I do not know what actually works well. I was hoping someone here would recommend something.

Thanks in advance,

Randy

i've actually never heard of mp4, but im not sure if the new windows media player 10 can do that for you. but you can try cnet.com go to downloads and look up some there, they have some pretty good things there.

MP4 is a apple Itunes format. I think it also has another name but I cannot remember it. I will check out that site hopefully something will help.

The reason I want to do this: If you buy a CD or song from Itunes they put it in MP4 format which is password protected. Well if you have a MP3 player that is not a IPod you cannot listen to these songs you payed for. I know there has to be a way around this and was hoping someone here could help.

First, you didn't pay for the song. You paid for a license to listen to that song on your computer. If you owned a iPod, that license would transfer to that device as well. So basically you want a work-around to defeating file encryption on a music file that you have license to on your computer but don't have license to on another device.

Interesting dilemma - the PCM FAQ is fairly specific on the discussion of hacking and other illegal 'activities'. Although some would argue it's not illegal since you have a license - even though the license is specific to that one computer. I guess I'd like to see what a moderator has to say about this subject before I would respond.

Dave.

If I'm not mistaken, you are able to use the iTunes software to burn standard audio cd's that will work in a regular cd player. In the iTunes browser, go to 'file' and find the entry 'burn playlist to disc'.

The problem is he doesnt want to burn CD's, he wants to put them on an MP3 player that isn't an iPod. I don't know how legal that is Seems to me you should be able to do whatever you want with that song as long as it's for personal use? Anyway, if you type "MP4 converter" or "AAC converter'" (which is the same thing, you can change the extension to .aac) at cnet.com or download.com, you should be able to find a solution.

Hope this helps

Moderator's Comment:

Ripping iTunes music formats for use on an MP3 player is a license violation.
