Problem With Word 2003 SP-1

What are the reasons that can make that word 2003 stop working for a few minutes and then start again when typing large documents?

This is a problem that I had yesterday while working at home in a document, I was typing and the cursor freezed suddenly, but the pc wasn`t freezed, I have a PC with an AMD Duron 1.1, 256 mb of SDRam and two HD of 40Gb each, this pc is not connected to the internet and its primary use is for burning DVDs and CDs, watch videos and listen music, the problem is only with word 2003 and only after been working for a while.

Save Autorecover might be turned on so that every x minutes the document is saved. Go to options and the save tab to change the settings, on a lrge document the save time is more noticable.

Another option that be it is allow back ground saves on the same save tab in options
