activex

is activex a have to have or can i get rid of it? dont recall down loading it but seems like i have 10 files down loaded in the last 2 weeks
can i delete with out damage ?
what is it for?
can i find out where it came from?

ActiveX isn't a piece of software, it's a technology that Windows uses. If you have Windows, you have ActiveX.

What particular files have been downloaded recently that you are concerned about? ActiveX can be used to put virii and spyware on your PC, so you should scan your computer with the appropriate antivirus and antispyware utilities.

Here are a few definitions on ActiveX and some links.

When you say ActiveX, what most people are refering to is really the ActiveX controls, a word Micrsoft uses for it's COM's.

You can't uninstall it with any ease, as it is tied into IE. I would however suggest you configure it securely, I have a short guide on this page:

If you have ten ActiveX controls installed I would suggest malware scans. I have a step by step for that as well on the same page.
