Best Programs used for DVD creating?
Was just wondering what the best programs to use while burning DVD's, converting, shrinking, etc? Maybe I can check out some trial versions, and get more familar with the dvd creating scene.
Thanks. |

That's quite a mouthfull, JayBee. Are you looking for suites? Easy to use stuff? Pro or semi-pro stuff? Roxio's DVD 7 suite is nice. I tried Nero's 6 but it's way buggy and I've not been able to burn a DVD with it (tech support hasn't been any help..). I also use DVDLabs, which is a great product. DVDShrink is excellent for shrinking. (Also, what is your price range for "best"??)

I don't mean best as in pricewise. I just mean like... what works the best, isn't much trouble, easy to use. Programs that are popular for what they do.
I've tryed TMPGEnc, I like that. I have Nero 6. What else is good for the DVD stuff? |

DVD Decrypter for ripping and burning.
DVD Shrink for shrinking. Cuttermaran + TMPGEnc for cutting. For authoring, it depends on your needs. For most ones, DVDLab will be sufficient. Otherwise, look at DVDLab Pro. RJ

Well wouldn't the complete suite for TMPGEnc be sufficient? Rather than having 4-5 different programs?

That's a personal thing. Try it, and if it works for you, use it.
But the 4-5 different programs do a better job overall. Each program is specialized for its job, and does that job very well. And well, I hate the Pegasys' product activaiton policy, so I can't recommend these programs (except the real TMPGEnc, for which that policy doesn't apply). They do nothing better than the freeware programs available. . . and the TMPGEnc suite also comprises of 3 or 4 programs, instead of just one. And I don't think it includes a ripping and shrinking program. RJ |

Alright, sounds good. I guess best thing to do at this point is to try different programs.

There are suites of programs, that claim to do it all.
Most of them fall flat in one area or another. If you want the utmost in quality and control over the process, you need separate applications. Here's my shortlist: DVD Decrypter DVD Shrink Canopus Procoder Express Mainconcept mpeg encoder Cuttermaran DVDLab Pro ReJig (for a super quick dvd). I know there's a ton of other stuff out there. Some good, some bad. Some a lot more expensive that does a worse job. |
