iTunes Library

OK- I just got my new External HD, and I moved all of my music rom the local HD to the external. I want my iTunes to retrieve it's Library Contents from my external Drive. My directory setup is as follows
External -> Music -> iTunes Music ->

That's the directory I have chosen in the iTunes peferecnes, but it doesn't seem to work. Any ideas? or can I not do this. I have the OSX iTunes btw, I dunno if that matters.

You should be able to use the external HD, but I know Itunes has DRM (Digital Rights Management) which means they (Apple) only allow you only to use on 3-5 Computers (Can't remember how many right off the top of my head). You have to authorize every computer you want to play itunes on, if you exceed the max. then you'll have to de-authorize a computer before you can use that particula computer with iTunes. HTP.

I haven't authorized my music for any other computers, and my external is only being used with this computer. I knolw that iTunes interacts in some ways with that .xml file in the top level of the iTunes directory... could it have something to do with that?

I-tunes will only update all you tunes from the itunes folder on your c: Had the same problem.

Try some other software like Yamipod or Anapod Explorer

go to my music- itunes- there are two files called "iTunes 4 Music Library" and "iTunes Music library" the Itunes music library is the one u'll need i think in this case, not exactly sure, but if u go to like file-import in itunes i think u can select that file and rebuild ur library--is that what ur trying to do?

whenever you move the music files to a new folder you have to re-build the library. Start by deleting all the songs from itunes (not from the HDD), then choose file/add to itunes library (pick the new folder on the ex-HDD), itunes will rebuild and you'll have to re-setup your playlists.
