Typing on lines in a word template
I work for a local school district and I am working on a word template for one of the departments. The template is simple and the user just inputs the students name, scores, current grade, etc... The thing is that I have put lines using the underline button, but when I enter a number or word the underline shifts and there is a gap which means we have to go back and highlight, click the underline button to reattach the line. This just defeats the purpose of a template. For example:
Current grade level: ___7___ Student name: __Jon Smith___ I want to be able to just click the cursor over the line and enter a number or word without the line splitting. I have started messing around with the fill-in function that prompts the user, but while it works great it still splits the line. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Edrod13

What I have done in the past is open up the drawing toolbar, (right click on the menu bar somewhere to select it. Then it should open up at the bottom of the document. Put your cursor where you want to draw a line. Select AutoShapes, Lines, select the straight line option (no arrows). Move your mouse to just under the blinking cursor, click and drag however long you want you line to be. You may have to adjust it a few times, then you'll get he hang of it. Hope this helps..

Another way to do it is to use tables. Put "Current grade level:" in one cell with no borders & then put the text field in the next cell with just a border on the bottom.

All you do is this- turn underline on, then use tab to make the line, then type on the line with the underline still turned on.

Still another way would be to make it an editable PDF file so that there is no possiblity of the content changing the page layout.
