2 questions......?
Hey guys, ok lets get to it, first question, No matter how many times I scan using adaware SE and spy bot S&D there are a couple of pop ups that remain, and yes I update them both before I scan everytime, is there any way that you know of to get rid of these excess, seemingly "advanced" ad-ware/spy ware progams?
2nd question is I need a free program that will delete anything off of my hard drive, for example, upon the next reboot the program will execute and delete whatever I couldn't delete just using right click/delete on windows and what not, I have gotten them before I just forget what the program is called. Thanx |

For deleting the files you couldn't delete using the right click option, go to the Run menu and type in 'cmd'
Then just navigate to the appropriate containing folder and type 'del ___', where ___ is the filename Last edited by Jaggannath; 03-15-2005 at 03:46 AM. Reason: hahaha had to replace * with ___... could end in tears otherwise |

you can also delete read only files with "del /ar xxx.xxx". Sometimes,
backdoor spyware/virus are read only; so when you try to delete them, the system would say "access denied". For those occasions where Windows dont display the files, but you know theyre there, because they keep coming back to life: use "dir /ah" will display all those hidden files. ("WinUp.exe" comes to my mind; it is a backdoor opener )All said, "del" is a dangerous command, for the fact that you can actually delete system files without a single complain/warning from it.

Why even mess with the command prompt when Move On Boot does such a nice job?

Because I'd never heard of Move On Boot... and besides, I'm comfortable using command prompt and I just thought I should point out there's more than one way to skin a cat

Even the command prompt cannot delete files that are locked or in use - and MoveOnBoot is a lot easier than booting into the recovery console to delete a file at the command line - or killing processes with task manager. I agree with you - I'm very comfortable at a command line and use it a lot, but when there is a free tool that's user friendly and works so well, why not use it?
HijackThis also has a delete file at reboot - it's in config, misc tools. MoveOnBoot is even easier, it's in the right click context menu. |
