after you uninstall then to go into your C: drive or where ever your programs are and look for a symantec folder. next delete it . Then try to reinstall. I have a friend who had the same problem and this worked. Next on your illustrator is it bundled with photoshop? try to uninstall and re install. Also deleting any folders that are left behind.

The files of any product or software are installed in C:/program files by default unless you install them in the directory of your choice.
If the suggestion that carlmccut offered didnot work then it means during installlation ,you didnot install the files of this software in C:. Do you remember where you installed the files during installation? If you dont remember then go to start ---> search and search for the files in all directories, the search results will show you where and in which drive, those files are installed. Delete them and install the software all over again. I hope after this you wont have any problem. Regards, |

try loading the program in safe mode. Another option is to use AVG it is a free virus program you can find it here:

Symantec and PC problems?
I did try to load the Illustrator in the safe mode and the resullts were the same. I also tried to go the address suggested By Cheryl but I am still getting a message there that won't let me connect it comes up in a box with Alert on the top left and inside it reads The connection was refused when attempting to contact www.symamtec.com. and the address that Cheryl gave does the same thing. I now think that I do not have a problem with two softwares and issue on the at the same time all of a sudden. Any thoughts or help would be great.

You may have a virus or some spyware that's modified your hosts file to blackhole connections to any security site. Try safe mode with networking, go get an online scan at housecall.trendmicro.com and go from there.
