started with a spool32 error, now can't install printer...

Running WinME on an HP Pavilion with a Lexmark all-in-one. Lexmark successfully installed about a year ago, but occasionally would get "spool32" error. Rebooting would usually solve the problem.

Just recently, it absolutely will not print and even accessing Start, Settings, Printers gives spool32 error. Ran ScanDisk, McAfee AV, Spybot and Ad-Adaware (no disk errors or viruses, >500 spyware but all removed). Tried uninstalling & reinstalling printer, reextracted spool32.dll or spool32.exe and still have no luck. (Now the printer won't even install.) Have been to Windows, HP and Lexmark sites and found no help (beyond reextracting the file).

In Device Manager, I removed the "generic USB hub" with the Lexmark driver (it installs with the printer). My only remaining ideas are to remove it again, THEN reextract spool32 and try again, or to reinstall Windows.

Any input would be GREATLY APPRECIATED!!!

already been there

Thanks EzyStvy, but I've already been there and their solution(s) didn't work (which is why I wonder if Windows needs to be reinstalled--ugh).

Does anyone else have any ideas?

Have you tried downloading the lexmark driver removal tool and installing the latest driver. Be sure to disconnect the usb port when installing and following the prompts as directed.

I had similar problems and this worked - hope it helps
