Don
I used a little program that told me what processes I had running in the background. I downloaded this program cause it seems that a lot of ram is used when I have very little in start-up and nothing else running.
There are 8 System32 exe identified and 15 others, all with the exe suffix. Are these soaking up ram and if so can they be turned off? Some I never use like C:\program~\common~1\aol\acs\acsd.exe I never use AOL and never have. So, I have never turned it on and I don't need it. Where would I go to delete it? I'm running XP Home Edition and have 768MG ram. Any help or advice would be much appreciated. |

All you need to do to see process information is ctrl-alt-del, you dont need any 3rd party software. You may have some malware on your pc, system32.exe, for example, is not legit. take a look at this post for information on how to clean your pc http://forum.pcmech.com/showthread.php?t=103171

Real and other programs install AOL for you sometimes. First go to the Control Panel/Add Remove Programs and see if you can remove it from there. If that doesn't work then you can prevent it from running by Start/Run/msconfig and unchecking it from the Startup tab.
