Is there software where I could look up the correct spelling of words?
Something that would have a icon in the task bar, so you could click it and look up words like you would look them up in a hand held dictionary. Thank you for any help, Dutch |

you can use dictionary.com , bookmark it for quick reference.
Or Google used with the define parameter: define:large (with no spaces) If I need it spelled right, not defined, and have a reasonably close spelling. Typicily instaed of typically, for instance Google will ask: Did you mean typically? http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&l...ly&btnG=Search That's all I ever use. I bought a dictionary & thesaurus on CD at Best Buy and it was cheap. I think it was under $10. I can't remember the brand.

IE spell is a free handy little application. Just type the word on the page, highlight it and right click to check spelling. Can use in forums as well and check the whole posting.......

Actually, I do something similar... If I'm going to make a long post, I'll use Word Perfect to make it, then paste here. For short posts, I don't.
Another option for checking spelling is the FireFox search bar in the upper right corner where you can pick a dictionary, A9, etc. |

I always use Word to type lengthy messages first- I've lost messages before because it took too long to type the message and the server logged me out- so when I click send, it takes me to a log in screen and the message is lost

I also have taken to typing anything of length in a Word or OpenOffice document(or if it simply an e-mail then I do it in WordPad, takes a 1/3 of a second less time to open and all I need is the bare minimum anyways), as I have had to many e-mail or posts of length deleted for various reasons(network/site slipups and that fun stuff, even my computer shutting off for a powerouttage), and I can save any document for the time that I type it, deleting after it is safely on its way to its recipient. I can't say I have tried that for any posts on this forum though... Perhaps I am being to lazy
![]() I would also suggest Dictionary.com or Google.com if you are in need of definitions. I have them bookmarked, so they are a mere 2 clicks away at any point in time. Very helpful when writing papers and I need to know a definition of a word to make sure I am using it correctly(I have been known to use words completely the opposite of what I had intended... Not much of a vocabulary either). |
