Question NET PASSPORT will not go away.. this is true

Hi all

I thought the best thing I could do is send you a copy of the email that I have just sent to Microsoft on the isssue. But perhaps before they do anything about it..... someone here will be able to help. Here is the copy email:

"I have REAL problems with NET PASSPORT having closed my account correctly
via your website. Decided this was not for me after all. Attached is an
image verifying my closing of the account on 5 March 2005.

However, whenever I go to the Desktop section of my computer looking at the
Folder and its files, without exception the .NET passport image will come up
insisting I key in various pieces of information. This, despite my having
CLOSED the passport. A suitable opening image is attached for you to look
at. And, I might add if I remain in that part of the computer directory it
will not switch off completely, just keeps coming on and off continuously.

Now this is SERIOUS because I want the program completely removed from my
computer so that this does not happen. Obviously after closing an account,
that should be the end of the matter, but patently this is not the case, it
is in fact taking over my PRIVACY and intruding. I want this sorted out
please very quickly as I cannot function easily anymore, and I might add
that this has been happening only in the last day - which is very strange
indeed (not occurring since closing on 5 March and up until today.)"

Really would appreciate someone's assistance on this. Basically I suppose I am asking can someone tell me how to remove this program COMPLETELY from my computer. Many thanks.

Just thought you would like to see the image that keeps coming up on my computer as described above, so have attached it for you to have a look.
I also have on my hard disk a verification image of closing the account. So everything was done in accordance with Microsoft rules.

Oh and one more thing before I close. No matter whether I try to enter data again (which is of course ludicrous my having closed it!) or try to set up another one I can make no headway. It does not recognize any attempt to contact them or remedy the situation - it is in a continual loop of denial and refuses to take any entries from me one way or another. But still remains somewhere on my computer.

Control Panel->User Accounts->Your User ID->Manage My Network Passwords->Highlight Passport.NET and click remove.

If Passport.Net isn't listed then it's nothing to worry about. Afterall, you're being prompted for a username and password which means it can't find the info on your pc

Thanks for your speedy reply EzyStvy at least you have given me some information that not even the Microsoft support came up with. They want to know lots and lots of info - but as I have explained to them a few minutes ago - there is nothing to tell. It has just decided to be invasive and remain on my computer.

It is not that I am accessing it or net passport sites or anything else - it is continually accessing my computer which is annoying in the extreme.

Did what you said and deleted - exactly the way you mentioned. It was there to be deleted. I then switched my computer off and then back on again and that pop up screen was still there I am afraid.

Microsoft have confirmed that I did successfully close my account but to this moment they do not know how to remove it completely so this irritating pop up log-in screen does not appear. This is a mystery.

But thanks for that tip - very much appreciated.

Hi all

Just thought I would update you all on my efforts to get answers from Microsoft on all this. I have had emails from a number of tech support representatives. But the bottom line in all this is they do not appear to be hearing what I am saying to them.

They are all asking for error messages and the like. It seems reasonable - but as I explained to them - it is not. I have closed my account successfully which they acknowledge. So there should be no reason for a pop-up screen to appear at all at any time. But it does - it is a Sign-in to the .NET Passport which is amazing as a closed account does not want to sign in.

I explained I think about 7 times today, that there is no error message and that I just want this pop up screen to no longer appear. But it appears to be falling on deaf ears. I have explained also that I only have to hover the mouse above the Desktop directory in browsing mode and that pop-up screen will appear. Maybe tomorrow will bring some sense to all this!! Because today certainly has not....

More explanations I cannot give them - because there are none. Where this instruction to appear on the screen is coming from I have no idea. All references to .NET PASSPORT have been removed following instructions given to me in their emails. There is nothing in the USER files anymore to indicate the .NET PASSPORT. But it makes no difference. I sent them 2 jpg images of the precise details that I was referring to, but Microsoft said they have no facility to view such images - so I just gave up, sent them an email and thought I would update here - just in case one day someone else stumbles across the same difficulty. I hope not for their sakes....!

Regards.
