Software for Regulating Volume

Hi all,

I'm wondering whether there is any freeware software (or plugin) out there that automatically adjusts the volume depending on the loudness of the that is usually heavily contrasted with quiet and loud movements. Is there software that would automatically make the quiet portions louder and the louder portions quieter so I don't always have to adjust the volume? Thanks in advance.

You want to change the dynamics of the music? That sort of goes against what the producer was trying to accomplish

iTunes has a feature to keep different tracks at the same normalized volume - but it doesn't work on individual tracks where parts of the song are quiet and parts are loud. Those are basic dynaimcs and would need to be changed with a compression ratio which would be dependant on the overall dynamics of the song. I'm not sure a plugin would be that 'smart'.

Thanks guys. I'll take a look at MP3Gain. Maybe classical music is a bad example, but in certain movies having software that adjusts volume would definitely be a plus.

I know PowerDVD has a dynamic range compression scheme - I don't know how well it works because I enjoy a wide dynamic range in my movies.
