XP Shutdown Hangs

I just built a new computer for a local office and it works fine at my house but after installing it there it hangs on shutdown. It always goes to the logging off screen and sometimes the windows is shutting down screen but will never turn off. I always have to physically kill the power and I even waited hours for it to shut itself off.

The funny thing is the problem stems from a program called Tiny Term Emulator. It is a program that they use that is critical to their everyday work. This problem started after it was installed. It does this on all of their other XP machines as well but not on the ones running WIN 98. Any fixes to this? I can't get rid of the program because it is critical to what they do but I can't have these continue to hang on shutdown. Any help would be great. BTW they are running Windows XP Home SP2 with all updates installed.

I would look for a web site for Tiny Term Emulator or call their tech support. Sounds like a common problem.

After dealing wth this same problem last week on another machine, I learned much about shutdown issues. The most commonly-mentioned cause in most articles relating to the subject appears to be a driver conflict of sorts.

The previous advice to go to tech support for the related software is a good starting point.

Thanks for the help. I contacted tech support and they gave me an answer I didn't want to hear... Upgrade to the newest version which would cost at least $950. I guess I'll just deal with the computers not shutting down because the business won't be at all willing to pay that much just so they can shutdown their computers. Thanks again.

Is it possible that the program in question, TTE, is currently set to start up on it's own when the computer(s) start? What happens if you go to the task manager and uncheck it from the Startup tab, put an icon on the desk top as a shortcut, start the program manually after the computer is up and shut it down manually before you shut down the computer? Just right click the TTE icon next to the clock and select close/exit before shutting down. Just a thought.
