Any help on how to extract files from a Compaq Recovery CD? The computer is about 5 yrs. old and uses Windows 98SE
Had program software for net work card corrupted and was not able to extract file to reinstall. Bought new network card (cheap $15 Wal-Mart) as a solution to the problem but the need most likely will arise again ? ! ? |

Are you saying that the software on your recover CD is corrupted???
If so, then, no, there is no way to get it back. You may try cleaning the disk to see if that changes anything. Otherwise, see if you can download the drivers for your network card. |

The recover CD is fine. The program file on the computer was corrupted.
I have installed the software from the new card and all is fine. Just wanting to know how to extract files from Recovery CD in case the need arises in the future |

Open the CD in My Computer, find the file that you want, and drag and drop to your hard drive, or other device.

The Recovery CD when opened in My Computer shows only 2 files.
BOOTCAT.BIN AND BOOTSECT.BIN I have used this before but it returns the computer to original configuration out of the box. So my real question is can the programs compressed into these files be extracted from these files without rebuilding the whole operating system? ? ? Are there hidden files on the Recovery CD that require special program to read them? ? ? |

It is not possible to extract anything from that recovery CD. The ONLY thing you can do with it is restore the computer to the as-delivered state. If you need drivers for factory-installed hardware, you have to download them.
