Excel reinstall - text replacement problem
After every install something new comes up!
I've just reinstalled XP SP2 and Office 2000. I use Excel to keep my accounts, which include some textual description. To help enter this, I use a program called shortkeys to change: e.g. =pb to paperback. This has worked fine in the past. However after this install, instead of leaving the cursor within the Excel cell so I can add more text (or another abbreviation), the program defaults to focusing on the cell as awhole: so if I type =pb I get paperback But if I type anything else the whole cell is replaced by the next character. I don't think this is an issue with shortkeys, which seems to work pretty simply, so I'm assuming that it is Excel. I have only just started operating with XP SP2, so I suppose that could make a difference. I can't see a suitable option to change to stop this so I can continue typing: e.g. Victor Gollancz 1973 First Edition hardback VG+ [I'm dealing with books here] Grateful for any suggestions. It may be very obvious but it isn't to me.

So within a cell if you type:
=pb you get paperback =pb a you get a =pb asd you get a (or do you get asd) The only thing I can think of is that perhaps excel is seeing a carriage return from shortkeys. Are you having trouble with all shortkey entries or just ones in particular. Is there an option in shortkeys that may be inserting a carriage return at the end of your abbreviation? On another note, I know that this isn't a permanent fix but you can hit F2 to get a cursor within a selected cell. |

some changes
Hi
Thanks for your reply. Things have changed slightly but I'm not sure why. Now Excel is seeing a carriage return after each shortkey, so the focus moves to the next box (one down, or beginning of line depending). Shortkeys does have extra symbols you can add to force e.g. This does not happen when I insert text from the clipboard, but even setting shortkeys to work via the clipboard does not stop this extra behaviour. I'll dig out my office Service packs, but I don't remember it ever doing this before. I was hoping it was something obvious I wasn't seeing. Every new install screws something up!! J |
