Desktop Weather Programs
Ok what is good out there? I'm not happy with weather bug, because of all the pop-ups and things.. Weatherplus 2.04 and 2.05 beta will not display temp, and no one at their support site can explain why.. Seem like a lot of users of this program are having the same problem. So any other suggestions?

Your main concern with Weatherbug should be the fact they partner and report to the Dept. of Homeland Security. Granted you, like me are an upstanding American citizen with "nothing to fear". Still, it makes me uneasy, in these days of The Office of Total Information Awareness etc.
I found this thread with a few good programs mentioned, all the best ones in fact. Weather pulse for FF is good and I like wunderground.com http://forum.pcmech.com/showthread.p...eather+program Last edited by rightcoast; 04-08-2005 at 07:26 PM. |

I use Weather Watcher from Singer's Creations, it's a great little unobtrusive tool that uses very little resources and absolutely no pop ups or anything.
http://www.singerscreations.com/AboutWeatherWatcher.asp You can set it to give info on any city, it gives satelite pictures and it is very simple to use.

Hmm, seems we both missed on that one. I didn't notice it was your thread...
Oh well For what it's worth, having a website weather site you like, over an installed program is no big deal. I always thought not "having to open a browser" to be way overrated. That's way I recommended wunderground. If you use Firefox or a tabbed browser, set it as a tab on start up along with your hopepage and whatever else. It's accurate fast loading and chock full of info. It isn't the prettiest, but it isn't ugly. Seems like a functionality and content over bells and whistles theory to me. As long as you have a pop up blocker its a good site. They use em, but not the sneaky hard to block kind. Oh yeah they have an RSS feed if you use those too. Though weather bug will disagree that it makes them spyware (after all spyware vendors are criminals, but weatherbug's santioned by the US Govt.).... The fact they "share data" found on thier subscribers PC's with the Dept. of Homeland security should give you pause. There is a reason the Chief Privacy Officer for Claria (Gator, a spyware company) was chosen to sit on that board
Side note: He replaces Nuala O'Connor Kelly, CPO for doubleclick. This is not a political post, this is just about info on your PC, as it relates to your privacy....But if you are missing the coeralation between Dept. of Homeland Security, The Office Of Total Information Awareness (Who's mission is to mine as much data as possible about...you, me, everyone on this board), and spyware vendors (who are the best there are at mining data). Then I don't know what to tell you. It is possible however, this is news to you, in which case Google it. Research this however choose, but consider yourself informed.

Try GB-PVR with the Weather plugin.
You don't need a capture card to use it, and it'll do a lot more than just the weather

I use Wetsock from robomagic.com. It's not a desktop app, it's a tray app.

The one I have run across is actually a plugin to a program called konfabulator. It can be found at konfabulator.com along with many other helpful desktop plugins (like my task manager I now can't live without.)

I'd like a program which displays weather in the UK.
