Depending on how much formatting you require, you can save an excel file as a .txt file or a comma separated (.csv) file. If you need to keep the formatting, you can Google "excel lotus converter" and find plenty available.

I assume you are talking about copying and pasting individual or groups of cells. I think you can but I don't know for certain. I am guessing here, but I would think that you may lose formatting and/or formulas with a straight copy and paste. Then again, you lose formulas if you save as a text file.

You can "save as" a 1-2-3 workbook right in Excel.

Re: Excel file and Lotus

Thanks for all the info, i believe you can save an excel file as WK4 (123) which does not open correctly in Lotus 9.8 Millenium Edition, my Mother is using 9.8 and Office XP. copying and pasting does not hold the formula formating is fin apparently. Can only seem to find lotus to excel converters on google? have not got my mum to try csv files, i think i would be on the phone for a week she is only a newbie (bless her). still i gave her the computer so i can not complain.

Cheers, eskimo

You can save in several different Lotus formats - WK1, WK3, WK4, WKS.
