M$ Word Save, But No Changed To Document

My OS is XP Home, SP2, All critical updates applied. Have installed M$ XP Office.

I have transferred Word documents I have previously created with earlier version of M$ Word. In addition I have not only created new documents with this version of Word, but have modified documents created with earlier versions of Word [mostly Word 97].

Now, when I open a modified document [but make NO CHANGES to the document] and then want to close it Word asks me if I want to save the changed document. I have NOT CHANGED the document though. It does it every time.

If I open an document created in an earlier version of Word but do NOT make any changes I am NOT asked the ? about if I want to save the changes [didn't make any].

Why is this happening and how can I modify the configuration of Word so this doesn't continue?

Thanks,

G.F.K.

If you used a CDR to transfer the files, you need to remove the read-only attribute after you copy it back onto a hard drive. Right click on it, Properties, uncheck the read-only box.

Thanks for your response, but I had already checked and none of the document files are "read only". Appreciate your efforts though.

Thanks anyway. Still looking for why this is happening.
