How to remove msnmsngr from taskmanager

whenever I press ctrl alt delete, the taskmanager comes out. There is a msnmsngr process there around 8-10K. I always stop that from running, but few moments later, its back there again. Anyway to stop it running for good. I do not use it anyway.
Is there other things I can remove from the taskmanager?

try Shoot the Messenger from grisoft.com

I believe www.grc.com/stm/shootthemessenger.htm is the site

I used it and the messenger doesn't show up anymore.

From your signature I see you are running XP, XP comes bundled with messenger 4.7 to use on your own LAN, it is configured to auto start and there is no way to turn it off, I always uninstall it on every XP install I do. It is on the CD if they ever want it back so if you copy and paste all the following script into your run dialogue box and click ok it will be uinstalled.

RunDll32 advpack.dll,LaunchINFSection %windir%\INF\msmsgs.inf,BLC.Remove

If you do not want MSN Messenger to start in your System Tray every time Windows boots up, do as follows : go into the “Tools \ Options \ Preferences” menu option within Messenger and uncheck “Run when Windows starts”.

If not there then have u tried to disable the service?

The messenger is not in the taskbar, but is in the task manager. Is there other ways than to install more software.

rjfvillarosa's was to remove MSN Messenger 4.7, by running(Start>Run) RunDll32 advpack.dll,LaunchINFSection %windir%\INF\msmsgs.inf,BLC.Remove

I jusst did that and it only took a moment, and it is a needless piece of software that MAY be causing aproblem so worth a shot.

Have you disabled the Messenger Service? (Start>Control Panel(in classic view)>Administrative Tools>Services Look for the messenger service and stop, then disable it)

If you type the exact file name into this website and search, it should tell you what program it is, whether it is the Service or MSN Messenger or a virus with a name of a common program, but named close enough so most won't notice it?

When I had problems dealing with Windows Messenger, which I think the process for it is called msmsgs.exe, I just deleted the program files folder, never bugged me again. Could work in this situation.

Can't you just remove it in the "Add or Remove Programs" area of Control Panel? I thought that's what I did, and I don't see it in my running processes.
