What kind of programs are these? Are they older, DOS-based programs?

Not to my knowledge, just got a new computer for my sister whos going away to Uni later this year and im putting some of my software onto it. I built it myself and am running windows XP home edition on it with no problems apart from my photoshop 4.0 CD (Original CD) will not install and macromedia fireworks MX (Original CD). Just pops up on the screen when i try to run the install or setup on the disks?

I was trying to figure out how to fix this exact problem on a client's computer just yesterday. The error came up when she tried to run some old 16-bit educational games. If anyone has an answer, it would be much appreciated by me too!
