TMPGEnc Error

I have some movies on my hard drive. They were in .rar's. So I extracted the .avi's to another folder. Some of em had Disc 1, and Disc 2. So I used Easy AVI Joiner to join the files to make the full movie. I used AVI Decompressor to get the pcm file..

Now when I try to enter the movie file into the "Video Input" in TMPGEnc to convert it to MPEG.. it says "The File can't be open, or is unsupported".

Am I missing a codec, or something? I haven't had this problem in the past... (today I removed Kazaa Codec Pack from my PC, that wouldn't do it would it?).

Any help would be much appreciated, thanks.

Yes, you probably only need a codec, actually even a DirectShow Filter is sufficient.
Get GSpot and see what codec your AVI uses. If it's DivX or XVid or something like that, get ffdshow, then (in TMPGEnc) give the DirectShow Multimedia File Reader a higher priority, and that's it.

And don't use Easy AVI joiner. It creates a bad hiccup where the video is joined, and tmpgenc will choke.
Encode each portion separately in tmpgenc, then join during authoring, or in something good like tmpgenc mpeg editor, or Womble.

How do you join during authoring?

What are you using to author?
I hate answering a question with another question, but without knowing the properties of the source files, the type of destination file(s), and what software you intend to use for the whole thing, I can't just arbitrarily answer

TMPGEnc DVD Author is what I use, and they would be MPEG2.

Other programs I use are DVD Shrink, DVD Decrypter, TMPGEnc (which I use to convert avi to MPEG).

Anything else you need to know?

You should be able to join using TDA. Or, just use Cuttermaran to join the MPEGs (elementary streams) before you load them into TDA.

Ok, well how would I go about joining them in TDA? That sounds easier... and why get another program if I don't need it.
