pull data from access - put into excel

i am working on a project in which i need to pull information from an access database (which is an inventory-type database), and put that information into excel. then, once the info is in excel, i have to use solver to solve a problem. if someone could point me in the direction of a good tutorial for this, i would appreciate it a lot

thanks

Open up your database in MS Access. I assume you are using Access 2002 or Access 2003.

With the database window visible (the one with all the objects in your database listed in it) and click on the Tables button to view your tables. Select the table you want to analyze and then on the toolbar, click on the small arrow on the OfficeLinks button. On the pull-down, click on "Analayze with Microsoft Excel". This will open Excel with your table as a new worksheet. In Excel, go to Tools>Solver and do whatever you have to do.

As easy as that.

i have the data in excel, but i am not sure how to use solver to get the answer i am looking for. perhaps you can help me. i have a colum which is the shelf life, a Number in Stock, the total price of an item, and the production cost of an item. i am trying to have solver take an input value of a time period in weeks, and then have it spit out a) total revenue in the given time period, b) total costs and c) profit. now, i know i can just take the values of revenue and cost to come up with profit, but i am not exactly sure how to use solver to determine the other two. i am attaching my excel file so you can see what i am talking about. thanks a bunch. appreciate any input.

alright, now, my question is, is there any way for excel to actually pull data from a table within a database, rather than initiating the transfer from access? the data in access is going to change a lot, and i only want excel to pull over specific info, so that i don't have to overwrite the file everytime. if i get solver's info in there, and i have to overwrite it everytime, i lose my solver calculations. does this make sense? thanks a bunch

in case anyone else is trying to do the same thing, i figured it out

for live data from access, you go to data -> import external data ->new database query

then you just choose the options that fit your needs
