software not recognized
I have looked everywhere for an answer to my problem, so here it is:
I purchased a Hallmark greeting card software, and when I put the disk in, it would not install, and was not even showing up in the drive. It was if there was no disk in the drive at all. Thinking it was bad software, I exchanged it for the exact same program. The second one did the exact same thing. So, I decided to change brands...went with Greeting Card Factory. Now, after getting that one home, it does the same thing. I know it isn't my drive because I can install other software games and such, and no problem with it working. (is a new drive too) Apparently, there are files on the disk because I can scan it with norton's and it shows how many files are there and detects no problems. I scanned it with norton's just to make sure I wasn't going crazy and there were actually files on the program disk. I have tried disabling all running programs and starting it, tried using run, have tried anything and everything. The light goes on and off after putting the disk in the drive, then just stays off. The strange thing is that I have 3 other computers in my home and none of them will recognize it either. I just have a hard time believing that I would purchase THREE different new pieces of software and all of them be bad. If it makes any difference, I am running Windows XP Professional. Please someone give me some ideas of things to try...I have run out of ideas. Thank you so much in advance. |

Take it back to the store and see if it's recognized in one of THEIR computers.

Well, I thought of doing that, but the store I purchased the software from is almost 2 hours away. I would think the odds of getting 3 totally different pieces of software being bad would be rather strange.

Thats a strange one, my best guess is firmware of you drives, maybe the software is on a disk that your current firmware does not recognise. Go to the manufactureres web of your drives and download, then flash your drives with the latest firmware and check it out. Do one at a time then test as it may all be a waste of time. Like you already said its odd.

Also make sure DMA is enabled on your IDE controllers - and use a CD lens cleaning kit.

My problem has been solved! After talking to customer service of the software, making sure my drivers were updated... which they were, I finally solved the problem. For some reason, there are some types of new software that cannot be read on a DVD burner. Even though the new burner I have is supposed to read ALL types of CDs and DVDs, the software could not be read. I installed a standard CD rom drive and it works fine.
