unable to delete folder
I have just merged 2 partitions using partition magic, it gave the option to create a folder in the new partition in which it would store the files from the merged partition. ie I had 3 drives c d and e i merged D & E. In the new D drive I have a folder which partition magic created and stored the files from the old E drive. I have copied the files out but I cant delete the folder because it contains a hidden folder called " system volume Information"
how do I get rid of it? I am running XP proffesional |

DONOT DELETE it!
The following stuffs are contained in your System Volume Information folder 1. System Restore points. You can disable System Restore from the "System" control panel. 2. Distributed Link Tracking Service databases for repairing your shortcuts and linked documents. 3. Content Indexing Service databases for fast file searches. This is also the source of the cidaemon.exe process: That is the content indexer itself, busy scanning your files and building its database so you can search for them quickly. (If you created a lot of data in a short time, the content indexer service gets all excited trying to index it.) 4. Information used by the Volume Snapshot Service (also known as "Volume Shadow Copy") so you can back up files on a live system. You can access it if you took ownership of the folder, but deleting it will cause SYSTEM FAILURE! --------------------- To take ownership, turn off "Hide protected operating system files" and turn on "Show hidden files and folders". Then right-click, Properties, Security, Advanced, Owner, and there you can take ownership. --------------------- |

did you used "Administrator" account to do it? (I mean changing the property of SVI)
or are you using XP pro, the home version is different. also, taking ownership meant assgining ownership to an account. when you right-click on System Volume and select Properties, did you see the "Security" tap/label? also, try use "safe mode" when all else fail use DOS prompt: ----------------------------- cd to where the file you want to delete: attrib -A -R -S -H "System Volume Information" del "System Volume Information" or del /AR /AS /AH /AA "System Volume Information" ----------------------------- Last edited by alfie2; 05-07-2005 at 12:13 PM. |
