How do I save Firefox bookmarks and Thunderbird address list to a disK?

Firefox has option menage bookmarks, enter there once you are there click file, then export and choose where to!!! Not using tunderbird do!!!

I've used this for both Firefox and Thunderbird : http://mozbackup.jasnapaka.com/
Firefox worked without a hitch I had trouble with Thunderbird but my diagnosis points to user error.

In TBird, open up the address book, got to tools and export.
