For best results which one DVD shrink, Decryptor
I just recenlty put a lite-on 16X dual layer burner in my machine and have been messing with backups of my own DVD's. I was able to make copies using DVD shrink by itself since it uses Nero for burning, and Decryptor by reading in an ISO and then writing an ISO to a blank disc. My question is, which one would be best for best playback, or do I use them together? I have read where some shrink, then use decryptor to create ISO and then burn, which just seems like double the work. Why not just shrink and use shrink to burn through NERO, or decryptor by itself? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

It's like this: You use DVD shrink, but let it output an ISO instead of files, and then use DVD Decrypter to burn. You can set it up in DVD Shrink (ISO Image and burn with DVD Decrypter). Quote:

Where exactly can I choose that preference. I just opened up DVD shrink and do not see it, or do I have to be creating a back-up to see that option.

When you click on the Backup button, it's there right on the first tab (Target Device).
Select "ISO Image File and burn with DVD Decrypter" as the backup target, and underneath it, name the image file as you like. RJ |

For making straight forward backup's I use DVDshrink and NERO 6.3, DVDshrink contains all the neccessary codecs to enable NERO to write the DVD files, by using a DVD rom and a separate burner, having preloaded the rom and burner with the media, I can click the backup tab in shrink and wander off to do something else, come back an hour later and a mainstream movie is copied with no problems , if you don't delete the temporary file on your hard drive shrink will overwrite it during the next session.
Out of curiosity I gave the source as the harddrive copy once and shrink carried straight on and made a perfect copy from that.

Thanks. I will try it the next time I backup movie. One question RJ. Last night I was trying to back up a movie but it had plenty of extras and what not leaving my compression rate in the high 50's. I was not sure what kind of video quality this would render so I did not backup the full disc. I just used one title and the main movie. Do you think I would notice a difference if I did a full disc even at that compression rate or for decent quality is there a minimum we should always try to acheive? The reason I say this is because I would have liked to keep the menus and extras.

Yeah, I just use both and they work together.
