Recomend cleaner /removal for registry

An aborted installation has left numerous files that are preventing the
Nero OEM software from being re installed.
I have identified them with RegistryMechanic but it wants $39 to be functional and remove them. If I am courageous can I go in with 'regedit' and manually remove them or is there some simple freeware that can get them out?
Thanks !
Chris.

PS- this is not some trial version of Nero that I am trying to defeat. Its new
and came with a new DVD drive I just installed today.

If you're using Windows 2000 or XP, you can download a freebie called RegScrubXP. CLICK HERE to get it. I used it about a month ago and it worked great, especially to be a freeware program. One thing though....if you do decide to use it, be sure to make the registry backups it recommends in the help files. Just for your reference, there are two different backups. The program will automatically make a backup when you tell it to delete some registry entries, but in order to restore this type of backup you have to be able to actually get into the program. There was a question on here not long ago that someone used the program and then couldn't get back into the main RegScrubXP interface to use the backup. That's where the other two backups come into play. Right click the start button and go to Explore. Go down to C:\Program Files\RegScrubXP and in that directory there are two files named HKCU and HKLM. Those are Windows command scripts and all you have to do is double click each one and they will make the backups you can use in case something goes wrong and you're not able to get back into the main interface for the program. I use easycleaner 2.0 and it works great, you can download a free copy here.

Try to avoid using the duplicate file removal tool, I have seen that one remove valuable system files and render a machine useless.

Thanks lots ! I ran the Regscrub and removed the Ahead/Nero files and Nero reinstalled well. The EasyCleaner I have used before and I have installed it also.
Cheers,
Chris.

I recommend a combo:

Try a search for Reg Supreme 1.3, and RegCleaner 4.3.

Both because after uninstalling a program, 4.3 literally brings up the program in question, with the left-over registry entries. Great program, and its free.

RegSupreme is $13 and well worth the money! I've tried all the Easy Cleaners' of the world out there, and this one beats them all, bar-none! It deep cleans your registry better than anything out there....try it for free for 30days--you WILL buy it!

Using both programs keeps my registry absolutely clean of errant entries.
