Anyone here heard of XP Lite program ?
I recently updated my old version of F/F browser from their webpage. Their site has an ad for an add-on program for WinXP called 'XP Lite'. I went to that site and 'Lite' looks very
interesting. It supposedly allows a user to get rid of unwanted Windows components such as Outlook Express, etc. and do it safely. I was wondering if anyone here has heard of it or knows anything about it. I have been a member of PCMech for a couple of yrs. now but have never posted in forums before, although I have been reading them and would value you guys input on this. Thanks in advance. |

I tried the '98 Lite a few years back and it was just what the name implied, "Light". Bare minimum program. I didn't really care much for it myself.

Wait a minute. I thought XP Lite was a cheap, inexpensive version of the OS that Microsoft was offering in other third world countries where software piracy is running rampant. I read this in one of my computer magazines. Software in some countries is like 80% pirated and Microsoft wants to offer a cheap OS to stop it. I guess maybe I'm thinking of something different. But why would anyone want to remove Windows components anyway? And actually pay to do it? That doesn't make sense to me.

Thanks for the info
Thanks Trowand and Not Important for the replies. Trowand - This program (XPLite) is a 3rd party program from a company
called LitePC. The reason that I thought I would like to get rid of some Windows components is because I never use them anymore. Take Outlook Express, for example; I use Mozilla Mail so why do I need Outlook still running ? Anyway, according to Not Important LitePC may not be such a great program after all. Thanks again guys. |

No need to uninstall Outlook Express. Just don't use it, it's not running in the background.
