Free Software For Encrypting Data

I'm looking for free encryption software, I have heard lots about PGP or something like that but I cant find where to get it for free. I searched to forums but the link redirects to something alse now and I can't find it.

Get the 30-day trial version of PGP Desktop 9.0 here. Even after 90 days, the free portions of the program (file encryption and signing, signing of clipboard and current window contents) will work.

You may also want to check into GPG, the GNU version of PGP, along with Windows Privacy Tools (WinPT), the Windows GUI interface for GPG. I have put those on my home computer and they work very nicely, integrating with Thunderbird through an extension to provide for automatic encryption, signing, and decryption of my e-mail.
