Hello,
This may sound very stupid but here it goes, I recently purchased a new laptop for my wife.(now maybe I'll get my Gateway back). To my disappointment, the new laptop does not include the separate standard "Restore" CD's. A "System Restore" program is already stored on the HDD. And the restore program does work, I tested it myself. It reformats the HDD back to a point where you took the laptop "out of the box". BUT.....What happens down the road if I ever have a bad HDD? OR Maybe just want to upgrade the HDD because of the speed/size? Everything would get removed/replaced including my XP OS. I checked the company's website, and there's nothing to download. I DO have the Key Code tag for XP on the bottom of the laptop. I have Nero Ultra 6, When the software says it can make a "Restore Back-up" disk, Is that the same as what I would have received if the laptop would have come with "Restore" CD disks? If not, How can I protect & back-up my entire laptop including drivers/OS/bundled software in the event of a HDD failure??? Gosh, I hope this isn't the new cost saving trend - no CD's to reload... Hope this is clear enough... Thanks! Last edited by caesar; 05-29-2005 at 12:37 PM. |

Glad you asked.
You have to create your own restore disks for that notebook and most people only find that out the hard way. Go here for how to instructions : http://support.gateway.com/s/SOFTWAR...LXPH1su3.shtml You were right, by the way, that's one of the things Nero is for.

Also check here : http://support.gateway.com/s/SOFTWAR...LXPH1su6.shtml
If you turned off the "remind me" function when you first started the notebook. |
