Nero ver.6 vs 5.5.7 Etc
I've used Nero 5 versions up to latest update with W98, W2K, and XP without problems.
I am going to install a new Lite-on cd-rw in a W98 pc and was wondering if the Nero 6.0 is stable with it. That version came with the cd-rw. TIA Carl |

verison 6 came with my DVD writer and I actually like this one. I have never been a fan of nero, but 6 is the same but a bit better.
Also, with the OEM that comes with the drives, you can upgrade to 6.5 which I have done. My burner is 16x and I had 8x DVD's and roxio would only work at 4x. I put nero on and it burns at 8x with my 8x dvds'. Also, this may have been in pervious version of nero, but I never found it until verison 6, it has a count down. all pervious versions of nero I had, only counted up. I was like that is fine and all, but please tell me when it will be done instead of how long it has taken.

Hi Kubie,
Long time no see. I've been a Nero fan for a lot of years. In fact, I wouldn't buy a burner for my builds if it didn't come with Nero. -- Nero 6, however, is a different story. I've had nothing but trouble with it; burning at least 30 -35 CD / DVD coasters. I've never burned so many coasters in a combined total before that. (My fist burner was, if I remember right, the old 1X HP 8000i...) I went thru Nero's tech support but they were unable to help. I also found, online, that a lot of other folks were having problems with version 6. I've also always had Adaptec / Roxio, mainly for the packet writing, but switched fully to Roxio 7.5. Now that is a program I can recommend. I like the way everything works in it, and like the DVD features a heck of a lot better than Nero's, as the sound editor / music CD creation for two examples. Don't know if you want to spend money for a new suite, but Roxio upgrades can be as cheap as $29 and I've seen the retail version on sale for under $79. HTH TwoRails |

I sure thank you guys for giving me some input to my question.
Since this cd-rw will be used for saving photographs and documents only and there will be no re-writing, there will be no concern about DVDs, music, or videos. I just wanted to make sure the 6.0 would be compatible with Win98. Thank you both Carl |

I'm using Nero 6.3 with my CD burner and it's never given me a problem. I don't update to 6.6 because if it ain't broke, why fix it?

There will always been a Nero verse Roxio War.
I started with Roxio and always preferred it, however, Nero always me to burn faster for some reason. Anways I have not been making coasters with either. |
