How can i remove log off <user> button?
Hey guys,
i have win xp pro and using the classic theme (1 bar instead of 2 in normal win xp that my computer, run, etc are on the right bar when u press start... a long time ago i found this tutorial to remove the log off user.. since im Administrator (with a diff username but that doesnt matter im just 1 user and its administrator) it said do something in the registry, i did it and the button still wasnt removed.. then i also found something in user accounts or w/e so i did it, and i think it did work, but then when i did ctrl+alt+tab it did a whole diff thing that only put my BG and cleared everything else and i had like shut down, restart, task manager and a few others there.. i really dont want that.. is there a way i can just remove the button without anything going bad ? Thanks, KoMoDo |

Rightclick on the start button, select "properties", click on "customize", uncheck "show logoff". Click ok, you're done.

You should have rightclicked on the *start button*, not the task bar.
If you rightclicked on the task bar you then have to go to the start menu tab first, then click on customize. RJ |

Hm, that screenshot is indeed the context menu of the start menu. Well, nevermind. Just click on properties, and then on the start menu tab.
Here are 2 screenshots. I have the German version of windows only, yet I think they'll help you find the option you're looking for: http://mitglied.lycos.de/thegeek/bilder/logoff/1.jpg http://mitglied.lycos.de/thegeek/bilder/logoff/2.jpg RJ |

If you are running XP PRO then you can use gpedit.msc from run... and in Administrative Templates > Start Menu and Taskbar, enable both settings for the Add/Remove Logoff to the start menu.

To remove "log off" button one should do the following HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer\NoLogOff = 1

ok regarding both your posts, ill give both a go once i reset.. theres no log off button atm, i did what RJ told me i went to user accounts then change the way users log on/off and then i disabled the welcome screen, then right clicked start, properties, and there was an option to show log off.. it was unchcked, i checked it, then unchecked it, and its gone now.. if its gonna be back after restart ill give jimmie's tip a try first and then if that wont go exe's tip..
thanks peeps, KoMoDo |

The method I mentioned will work with or without the "welcome screen" enabled.
