I have recently bought two new items which plug into my PC for updating. One is a in car GPS unit which I need to upload a French map to as im away there this summer and the other is a Sony Network NW-HD1 for my personal music collection. The problems my not be related but what happens with both is the programmes start up with the splash screen and then nothing happens and back to the desktop. The sony one says it needs to update the database then start after it scans my music but it never does and the GPS problem says: "An error has occured while initialising. 429 ActiveX component can't creat an object"
My system before I forget is: Windows XP Home Edition - SP2 Updated Pentium 4 2GHz CPU 512MB RAM Sorry if this sorta thing gets answered all the time but the "search" function on here couldnt find a related topic. Thanks Rob Paul. |

Actually it has dll files that should get these 3rd party activex applications working (You're probably just seeing the helpfile on installation). The error you're seeing is a very generic activex error, the fix is localized to the type of software you are dealing with. Have you tried contacting product support to see what can be done to fix it.

I have tried both companies for tech support and both say to contact Microsoft as they have all the details on software errors. Just wondering if there is a common fix or setting to change to allow these programmes to work. That script controller ive just downloaded has these files (See attachment)
How does it work? |

Tech support told you that? That's a bunch of bull. There is no common fix for an error like that, since it is a generic error that literally means what it says: an ActiveX component can't be created. It's much more likely that the component that can't be found or created is related to the software you bought, not anything to do with Microsoft.
Try reinstalling the software to make sure that all the DLLs are present and correctly installed and registered. |

Hmmm .. have you tried disabling or stopping Zone Alarm and then check to see if the program works?

Unfortunately, it isnt a system diagnostic issue that could isolate what's going on. My first line of thought would be in suspecting the software mfger's program installation or the way its written. As DrG had mentioned, the program is trying to load up an ActiveX component that isn't doing so correctly.
Given that you are having the same issue with 2 different programs, made by 2 different mfgers .. The other line of thought is in finding what's blocking ActiveX, if any. My options would be to ask you to stop ZoneAlarm completely, and or try to ensure that the ActiveX settings in your browser (internet explorer) are running with minimal or no security (tools > internet options > default level > low security). An alternative option is to check the loaded components on your browser window .. Open IE .. Tools > Manage Add-Ons > select Add-ons that have been used by Internet Explorer .. look for the addon that could be related to what you installed and make sure that it is enabled. |

Ive just tried that settings and re-installing both update items of software and still nothing im afraid
Could it be an issue with drivers like Audio or Sound? Ive got an NVIDIA GeForce FX 5600 Graphics Card and Sound Blaster Audigy Sound Card, both to my knowledge have the most up to date drivers at the minute. Could I maybe be missing a driver or some softare? |
