Game causes pc to crash
I'm not sure if my problem is software, hardware, or both, but here goes...
Ever since i bought the game World of Warcraft (online roleplaying game) i have experienced completely random lock-ups. This happens when and only when i play this particular game. The monitor will go blank and the light will change like its lost the signal to the video card. the sound will loop as well. The only way to get out of this lock up hell is to reboot the pc with the reset button. Im not sure whats causing this, but i just reformatted the HD and still have the same problem. Fairly sure its not a virus or anything since its still there after reformat. Also i have mcafee firewall, antivirus, and anti-spyware installed. Its not overheating that i can tell. i even opened up the side of the case to blow a big house fan on it while playing, still locked up. the only thing that maybe has seemed to lessin the lockups has been rolling back my video drivers to some older ones i found on nvidia's website. I have checked the games tech forums and their are alot of people that have this same problem, but no solution. if anyone knows what this could be please let me know, thanks. Windows XP - Service pack 2 (all updates updated) Soyo Dragon 2 Platinum Mobo Pentium 4 2.8Ghz w/800Mhz FSB 1gb of ram at 400Mhz Nvidia Geforce fx 5600agp w/256MB ram Cmedia 6channel integrated sound on mobo 500w psu Cooled by 6 case fans |

What brand is that PSU? I'm guessing that it may not be up to par. With PSU's, quality means a lot more than the astronomically high wattage rating.

I see this a bit around the place,,meaning it happens in GTR,,il2fbpf sometimes,,if you belive you can eliminate the obvious, the next best thing is for a pc break down,,clean up ect,,can work wonders..

If rolling back your drivers helped, double check all the drivers. maybe even manually check for updated drivers off the manufacturers websites.
The only other thing i can think of, is the directx9c installed by SP2, some games report errors with it. Sometimes doing a full reinstall of DX9 helps (http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...displaylang=en ) |

Force Flow,
Im not sure of the PSU, i purchased my case from Aspire through newegg and the psu came with it. i assume its decent since i spent close to $100 on it. is there some way i can check to see if the psu is bad/good? Reaper, I guess im not sure what your saying there. Negeva, as far as the drivers, i believe i have tried all of them, with no luck(the lockups seemed to lessin with the older drives, but not go away altogether). as far as direct x, it says you cant uninstall it, so how are you supposed to reinstall? i just reformatted, so please dont tell me that.
