Nero 6: What is the Function of IN CD?
I couldn't find exacly what I was looking for in a search.
And I can't find anything at Nero's homepage about the IN CD software that's part of the Nero 6. All they have are updates for it. Does anyone know exactly what IN CD does? Must this software be installed to erase CD RW & DVD RW discs? I thought that was the case on my other pc when I was using an older version of Nero. I also remembering it causing minor problems where when I put a disc in my CD/DVD Rom and later ejected it, the disc icon would still show on My Computer as if there were still a disc in the drive. When I uninstalled this software on my old PC, this would get rid of the problem. It's not a major problem but it is annoying. However I still would like to be able to erase RW discs. If I uninstall IN CD, would I not be able to do this? Thanks in advance

I don't use Nero but I'm pretty sure In CD allows you to drag and drop files to the burner.

Stvy is correct. InCD is the packet writing software that allows your optical drive to be used as a hard drive, basically. You can drag and drop to it without using the Nero interface. You can erase RW discs using the standard Nero method without InCD.
I remember having the same problem with the older version (an update eventually solved it.) I have not experienced any issues using the new version of InCD under XP. It's been installed for over a year now.

OK thanks for the replies.
Actually I wasn't having any problems until yesterday. I've had Nero 6 installed for over 6 months now. I uninstalled IN CD with the cleaning tool from Nero and reinstalled the latest version. Drop and drag is a nice feature to have so I'll keep it installed and see if it happens again. |

You can drag and drop using Nero Express to burn a CD-R or a CD-RW. All InCD does is allow you to format a CD-RW in UDF format for packet writing - where you can use the CD-RW like a 700mb removable disk without starting Nero to burn files.

Right, with InCD you don't have to use the Nero interface at all. It allows you to drag and drop within the Windows environment.
