Ridiculous mac problem: can't read .doc files
Hi folks,
Got a problem from the stone age here. Every time my co-worker, who is completely computer illiterate, receives a .doc file sent to her from a pc user she can't open it. Re-saving the file in .txt or .rtf format then re-sending is not a solution. It involves multiple steps, multiple emails, multiple copies of the same file, communication back and forth and a big time lag for every single file she wants to read. What she needs is a utility that allows mac to read pc .doc files. Does such a thing exist? Frankly I am shocked that in 2005 this problem is still haunting macintosh users and I can't track down a simple solution on the web. thanks for help! -- rd |

It would be the exact same issue if she was using a PC without Microsoft Word (or Office installed). You need the software to be able to open the file. http://www.microsoft.com/products/in...d7f60&type=ctg

If it's OS X then the built-in text edit program can read and write .doc files.
