MS works file

Heya all
I think this goes here. If not please move it.
My friend sent me a MS works file a day ago. The file will not open on her computer is keeps saying
"Works cannot open "C:/Documents and Settings/Owner.TRAY.MY DOCUMENTS/ENGLISH/eng8204.wps". The file may be in use by another application, the file formate may not be supported by any of the installed converters, or the file my be corrupt."

Now the file was writen on her computer. She has works 2003. I was wondering if there is anyway to know for sure if it cant be recovered?

try this from micro$oft

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...DisplayLang=en

a WPS viewer, if it opens it then excellent, or try opening it in word, select recover file, or use notepad to open it and copy the text (if any out)

Sucks...sorry I can't help but mentioning that when someone mentions MS Works.

Your friend sent you the file and now she can't open it. Do you the file? Can you open it? Can she open the file out of the email in her Sent Items folder? Also do a search for the file on the HD and she if she is trying to open the correct one. You can also find the file, open Works and then try opening the file from there.

I know that Word 2003 has a Open and Repair option. You might see if this is available for Works. To use, you first open Word, click Open, find the file and then select Open and Repair from the Open dialogue box. Here is what it looks like in Word.
