patch problem
On one of my games I re-installed it and when I try to patch it my computer says it is already installed. The problem is that it isn't installed because when I access the game it says the patch isn't installed. The worst part is the game does not work properly now. Can anyone help me?

What is the name of the game?
Do the patches show up in Add/Remove Programs? Have you looked on the games web site support section?

It is likely you still have remnants from the previous install. For some games these usually have to be removed before a reinstall. Have a look in the Registry and the Documents and Settings folder.

thanks for the help but I downloaded a zip file of the patch. It seems the regular one has problems with the game (rome total war). Many people have had this problem.

if this is xp, try a restore pt, and back up to before you installed the patch the first time, and then run the patch again.

I copied the zip file patch to the game file and all is well. I also tried the restore thing and it didn't work, tried cleaning registry and didn't work, so I found a different patch file which was a zip file and copied the files to the game and that finally worked. I'm still searching for that lingering file that's making that error even though the new patch I used works. I usually wouldn't care but the old patch used to work right when I would re-install the game but after 10 re-installs it doesn't seem to want to work now.
