Exclamation Bittorent: What is a good program for it?

I have heard of how bittorent works and that it is so awesome and fast, and this makes me want to get it! I went to the official website and downloaded the installer but nothing really happened when I executed it. A program was not made and i tried again and nothing happened. So what programs would you guys suggest for bittorent (other than the official one) that don't have RRS feads finders built in and all those bells and whistles i will never use? i want one similar to Limewire or Kazzaa in interface. Thanks

exeem is in beta. I believe the .torrent files were said to be all internal.

The ABC bittorrent client and the Azureus bittorrent client appear to be two of the more popular clients.

Bittornado and bitcomet are both good. I dont know how kazaa or limewire look like(i never installed that junk) but I doubt you will find a BT client that looks like them because BT doesnt work the same way.

I like bitlord. It has a built in search thingy so you type in what you're looking for and it automatically executes the search at some torrent site. From there, you download a 'torrent file' to your pc. when using bitlord, you just double click the torrent you downloaded and bitlord will ask you if this is ok. and you're off!

you go to a site that has torrents and click on the torrent and then hit open, it should open ABC automatically

as far as sites, i use it to download iso's for linux, so whatever distro site is what you are looking for.

i don't know of any sites that list torrents for search, but as far as i know, thats illegal

downloading torrents isn't illegal, its the content of the torrent that makes it illegal.

plus, your canadian argument (whether or not it is valid i am not going to even argue) doesn't apply here because people of all countries read these forums. the mods run a tight ship here

as far as ABC is concerned, you download the torrent and either save it or hit open. if you hit open, it should run ABC or whatever program you have as default for torrent files. if you save them, just double click them to run them just like any other file. ABC will ask you where you want to save the file, you hit ok, and you are good to go

People seem to be very unclear about that. From what I hear, its legal to download but illegal to upload, and with BT you must upload (most sites will ban you if you dont keep a 1:1 ratio)

I remember reading that before also, they were starting to track files that were being shared, but not files that were being downloaded. Maybe the act of sharing would be equal to copying the material. So if you give a copy of a protected program or song to a random friend for free, then he wouldn't be at fault, you would. I don't know, I'm blowing smoke, but it does make for an interesting thread.

I use Azureas. It works perfect and is the only one I have ever used, no need to switch. It is illegal to download and upload any kind of copyrighted material. I just read an article about a couple hundred people that were arrested for downloading content using bittorrent. Bit torrent is especially dangerous because you can view everyones IP address that is connected (seed/peer) to the torrent. Yes it is fast and works great but also risky. My suggestion is to use a proxy.

bitcomet/bitlord are made from the same source code; bitlord has added some minor extras only. Most Canadians use Bitcomet or Bitlord 'cause its download speed is fassssssssssst and you can download upto 10 files( open 10 torrents in the same time) at once.

btw, my total download speed is at 300KB/s on a 1.5Mbit ADSL line here in TO.
some torrent can do 150KB/s.

I've used Azereus for a long time now, but I'll check out the ones you listed. My cable speed is listed as 5,000 kbps. Would be cool to get my shows in 30 minutes.

The client itself doesn't really have much of anything to do with the speed of your transfers. Unless you use the up/downstream caps that some clients have. And it also depends somewhat on your settings (like the number of connections you allow), as well as how many torrents you're running, what else you're doing with your connection, and how many seeders and leechers are on the torrent.

And just in case somebody cares, I use ABC.

I use TorrentStorm, discontinued I guess but I like it enough to not find any reason to find a new program.

We allow discussion on software here because the software itself is completely legal. However, torrent sources are often not.

I meant to say "NOT" the slap in the face, somehow that "not" got left out, sorry. But I was trying to say thanks for being nice about the post, and not making a huge ordeal about it. I'll be careful not to make the same mistake again.

I used it for the longest time. It was pretty neat, but I didn't like how if you were getting 3 different files, you had 3 different windows for it. Azereus is different, it has one window and lists them like a P2P program would. I used another one for awhile also that was real close to Bit Torrent, started with a C, but can't remember it. It had some more feature, you could set your speed, it would show you the amount done, but yet again, you have one window for each file.

Tried Shareaza for a day, didn't like it at all. Not sure why, just didn't like it.

There's also G3Torrent, , never tried it.

the new version of BitTorrent has them all in one window. my biggest problem with azureus is that it is a resource hog and its based on java
