Post Shut down/ Restart Problem

I have an E-Machine, E-Tower 466id with windows 98 on it. when I select start/shutdown/SHUTDOWN, my system just restarts. I can't get it to shutdown without holding the power button in for a few seconds. Anyone know how to correct this?

Hi

I had this exact problem a while back, caused by an install of Norton Anti Virus.

Help can be found at

http://support.microsoft.com/defaul...9&Product=winxp

a windows help page which allows you to stop the automatic restarts when a shutdown error occurs. This will make the computer blue screen, displaying the error, a fix for which you can either google or ask here.

It might also be worth uninstalling any recently-installed software and trying again.

Sorry about the bad link, this works

http://support.microsoft.com/default...&Product=winxp

Follow this advice to disable the automatic restart on error. This will get you the error details you need to troubleshoot
