I have an E-Machine, E-Tower 466id with windows 98 on it. when I select start/shutdown/SHUTDOWN, my system just restarts. I can't get it to shutdown without holding the power button in for a few seconds. Anyone know how to correct this?

Hi
I had this exact problem a while back, caused by an install of Norton Anti Virus. Help can be found at http://support.microsoft.com/defaul...9&Product=winxp a windows help page which allows you to stop the automatic restarts when a shutdown error occurs. This will make the computer blue screen, displaying the error, a fix for which you can either google or ask here. It might also be worth uninstalling any recently-installed software and trying again. Did not install norton but mcafee! uninstalled it and aol. but shutdown still gets restart! Also after manual shutdown computer won't restart until I unplug and replug machine and it starts without pushing the power button. Strange huh?
Also your link is not working for me. Any more ideas? HELP!

Sorry about the bad link, this works
http://support.microsoft.com/default...&Product=winxp Follow this advice to disable the automatic restart on error. This will get you the error details you need to troubleshoot Freakitchen |
