Hanging while online

Hi all,
i have an HP w/ Pentium R 2.53 Gig, 512 RAM, running XP home sp1. I have always used a Nortons sys works program. I had System works 2003 and purchased System works premier 2005. I unstalled the first, then began installing the new one. There were only 2 programs that i wanted to install so instead of rebooting for each, i installed both and did one reboot... this was not the thing to do...some weird happened and some of my settins were sent way back. my systems seems to be okay, but when i go online, it hangs badly and this will happen until i am booted off....Does anyone out there know what could have been affected by this bone head move??

Norton System Works is known for causing odd quirks. The easiest fix would be to uninstall it and get a seperate AV program and firewall

AVG is a good free piece of AV software, and Sygate or Kerio are good choices for a firewall application.
