Audacity

anyone use audacity?? i recently downloaded it, but am confused on what to do. everytime i open a file it compresses it big time to fit in under a second. what do I have to do??

how do i convert files to WAV?? is that a necessity?? all i have is files from ITunes.

When you load the file (ill assume mp3), just click export as wav, and save. Simple. for your question in the first post, do you mean that the program is visually squishing the sound into a very low zoom level? or is literally speeding up the entire song to fit in one second?

Sounds like the sample rate is set to an improper speed, relative to the sample rate to the file. check the settings in audacity (File > Preferences > Quality tab).

For exporting to wav, goto File > Export As Wav.

its still a second long even tho I changed the sample rate to like 1000. what hz shoudl I try??

hmmm. try checking the sample rate of the file itself if its posslible, just right click and check the properties of the file (if its windows xp, you may have to hit the simple mode on the summary tab). check to see if it gives you a sample rate.

actualyl it does...44Khz, if i hit simple mode it gave no iformation so advanced was teh way to go. 44khz that means 4400hz??

Actually its 44,000 hz. since KHz is Kilo Hertz

And just to add - there is no reason to convert a mp3 to wav - you will not gain any quality whatsoever, only a larger file.

ok thanks guys, ha i meant 44000 just forgot the other zero...ha. its summer. Idk what i did but it works...ha this is tight. It only works for this one song, others it doesnt work.
