I am looking for a good program to make my own dvds with menus and everything and for it to alow me to use/convert AVI or MPG MPEG to DVD format.

Also what is a good program to convert AVI to dvd format or AVI to mpeg?

The Nero suite comes with a decent dvd builder, but its the only one I have experience with, so I can't tell you how it compares with others.

The guides at www.doom9.org cover all major conversions, AND link to free software you can use for the conversions. AVI to DVD isn't a particularly easy conversion, in my experience.

I'm with Mikezel on this one. I have used NeroVision bundled in Nero Ultra 6 and SonicDVD that came with my Sony burner(maybe not full version). The Nero software allows you to adjust bitrate to lower the quality and add more video. If you have more video than the allowed amount, SonicDVD will not let you burn to disc without deleting files. NeroVision allows you to encode audio in AC3 format or PCM. SonicDVD only allows PCM(uncompressed audio track), I believe. If you have more video than the allowed amount, SonicDVD will not let you burn to disc without deleting files. Also NeroVision allows you to adjust the menus to the way you like. Sonic allows you to choose text color.

If I am downloading "Everybody loves raymond" shows form limewire and then am putting them on a dvd... If the files have a virus and I did not detect it if I play this dvd in a normal dvd player or another pc dvd player can it infect them?

Sure, it could infect another PC. But you're not going to see too many viruses in video files, it can happen, but not common. Just remember to right click and scan the file with your AV after you download it and before you open it.

I am sure you can not get viruii from avi format(there is not scripting inside avi files), dont know about others, but I do know for sure is that "real player" file formats( .rm, .rmvb) can include codes that can attack Windows PCs.

Those files cannot 'contain' virsuses. The only thing to watch out for is if the movie is in a .rar file. It's always a good idea to scan the file before you extract, there could quite easily be a virus bundled with the video file.

you can use a cd burner to burn your files onto a cd.
no problem with watching video on a dvd player with a movie you burned onto a cd providing you have the right format (my parents have a dvd player that can play xvid and divx so they just burn the movie file as data, but i don't so I have to convert the format first).
