FireFox Problems
hey guys
i have a problem with Mozilla's Firefox. i'll download the app from the mozilla site and then install it - so far so good. when i open the browser i get a blank white page and an empty address bar. typing in URLs doesn't work and i've fooled around with just about everything in the Internet Options. anybody else experiencing or know how to fix this problems? thanks -MakeYourslf2012 |

I've installed it on a 1/2 doz machines and it has always worked like a charm. Sounds like an install gone bad. Try uninstalling it and reinstalling it if you haven't already. Like it set itself up as your default brower. Which version did you get?

check your firewall's blocked access list.
your firewall might be blocking firefox's internet access.

I'm probably clutching at straws here, but do you by any chance connect to the net through a proxy? For example, an office/college network? If so, firefox requires its own proxy settings that aren't covered by XPs "Internet Options"

i have downloaded the latest version, and uninstalled and reinstalled about 5 times now. i have two firewalls and they both accept it, i've also tried turing them off.
the proxy may be an issue, although im not quite sure what it is or how to work it. this PC has a routed connection from another pc and modem upstairs though i doubt thats the problem because i have many friends who run firefox off a routed connection. thank you guys for your promt replies -makeyourslf2012 |

Are all other internet connections (IE for example) working fine? What happens if you type "file:///c:/Program%20Files"? do you get to your "program files" folder? |

That's a strange problem. I'd try uninstalling one more time, and then deleting any folders you find related to Firefox, including the original Firefox user profile it's created. Wipe out any traces of the original installs, and then try reinstalling it. Usually just uninstalling it doesn't get rid of the user profile it creates so a botched original install will keep on screwing up the later installs if the problem was in the user profile.

hey guys,
unfortunatly, i tried all your suggestions and it didnt fix my problem on a good note, i tried submaster's advice and downloaded the Opera browser. its up and runnin' great, it looks like it has all the same advatages as firefox does - tabbed browsing, e-mail, top-notch security, + more. thanks for all your help -makeyourslf2012 |

so does this problem move into the "cold case files"?
or are you gonna continue trying to solve the problem? I'd really like to know what's causing it. |

although i would really love to find out what the problem is, i just dont think i know enough about the topic to try and fix it.
What's even harder is - im the only one with this problem so i wont be getting any tips as to what it might be from someone who has gone through the same trouble. however i did get a browser almost identical to firefox - just with a different company name. so as of right now, guess this is just another cold case for the PC Mech Tech forum. |
