GIF composer

What programs would you recomend for making GIFs?

I am not looking for somethings to make professional hourlong gifs or anything, but something with good editing tools and good composing or producing tools so I get a good looking finished GIF.

TIA,

If you have photoshop, it comes bundled with adobe ImageReady.

If not, I remember using a little freeware program called "gif construction set" before I started using ImageReady. You may want to try to hunt that down.

Err....I installed the gif contruction set. Total disaster....all of it went not-responding after a few minutes, the program windows wouldnt close even after end now....It claims no uninstall data was found when I try to uninstall it...And not surprisingly I ran ad-aware and found 7 criticals. Going to do a virus scan next... either I didn't get the program you had trialed, or it is really bad because I had a few minutes to try it out and it rendered horrible images with distorted colors... I think I will take a trip to the computer store and look to see what they have.

I used Animation Shop 3 for my avatar:

http://www.pcworld.com/downloads/fil...id,7652,00.asp

It was included free with several versions of Paint Shop Pro (versions 6 or 7 thru 9 if I remember right). The above link is only for the trail version, which is pricey to buy at $39USD: you may be able to find an older version of PSP that includes it for not much more $$. I have no idea where to look for it in your end of the world, though.
