Adobe Premiere 6.0 - VERY odd capture issue
I am running Adobe Premiere 6.0 - WinXP SP2 on a Dell 3.0 with 1 GB of RAM. I bought this computer specifically for editing a documentary I shot this summer.
I've got a JVC GR-DF450U DV camera and an Creative Audigy 2 soundcard with IEEE-1394 port. The video is getting into Premiere fine... at first. It previews great, captures great, plays back great. But here's the problem: Once I capture a clip the first time, and the camera stops, I log the clip with the clip name, save it, and go back to the "movie capture" preview window, start the camera to playing again and NOTHING SHOWS UP in the preview window. No sound, no video, it's just black. I try closing the window and opening it again. Nothing. I try shutting off the camera and starting it again. Nothing. The weird thing is that the TIMECODE is going along like nothing's wrong. There's just no preview anymore. I have Premiere set to preview audio and video on the desktop during capture and playback. Now, when I installed this, I had to run a small program first that would remove Directx 9.0, because the installer demanded version 8. I'm not sure if that has anything to do with it or not. Any help on this would be greatly appreciated. I REALLY need to get this logging done, and short of restarting the computer and rebooting Premiere after every clip, nothing's working. ARGH! BTW, I've tried a couple of those free capture programs online, like Divo? I think it's called. Couldn't get ANY preview through those. Thanks in advance, Autumn |

Premiere 6 doesn't like JVC consumer cameras - I've worked with Premiere since version 4 and Premiere had a problem back then with their professional equipment. You might try upgrading to Premiere 6.5 and use DirectX9 since that would give you full duplexed OHCI 2.0 support.
Another consideration is your IEEE-1394 card. Most people will say it doesn't matter what card you use - but Premiere cares quite a bit. And I can all but guarantee you that the Audigy2 is not a certified third party capture card. It shouldn't make a difference, but it might. Premiere is a prosumer level package and it's very picky. Adobe ironed out a lot of those issues with Premiere Pro, but 6.0 is another story. I think your best bet is the Adobe User to User forums: http://www.adobeforums.com/cgi-bin/webx?14@@.ee6b372 There are plenty of helpful people there that know every inch of Premiere.
