Hello all I am new here.
Some programs tend to set themselves to start when you start the computer and they cause alot of delay in booting. Is there a way to stop them from starting whenever I start my computer? I checked within the actual program preferences but there is no such option I am wondering if windows has a feature that enables me to block these programs from starting at boot. I am using windows xp home. |

Welcome to PCMech.
Most "decent" programs have options to prevent them from starting up with Windows that are found in their Configurations. You can use the msconfig tool (Start > Run > msconfig) > Startup tab and uncheck any programs that you dont want starting. |

Go to Run and type: msconfig. Click on the Startup tab. You may want to use this site as a guide to determine which programs are needed, optional or excess.

Welcome to PCMech!
![]() First check ur startup folder in the programs folder, then if that doesnt work, you can run a tool called 'msconfig' to disable certain startup programs, to go there, goto Start > Run, then type "msconfig" (without the quotes), and hit OK. Click on the last tab labelled Startup, and uncheck what you dont want. Oh, and if it gives you a prompt about selective startup or something like that, theres probably a check box you can hit so it wont bug you again, just dont worry about it. Quote:

Some programs will replace themselves even if you remove them from startup. Spybot's system-level protector (SDHelper) will prevent these apps from adding themselves back into the registry to automatically start up again.
