what floppy boot disks are you refering to? If his system is home edition you have to use home edition, you cant use another.

Does he not have his windows xp home cd?

My friend's Windows ME machine froze on start up everytime after the icons loaded. Even safe mode didn't work. I took out the hard drive, made it a slave drive and put it in my computer. I went into the hard drive, copied all the files that she wanted onto my machine and burnt a DVD-R. Put back the hard drive in her computer, repartitioned and installed ME clean. An alternative if Repair doesn't work for you.
