Haveing big problems installing games and game demos that use Installshield
Hi,
Ive lost count of how many game demos ive D/L off of Fileplanet and Game demo sites that use Installshield and give me errors right at the end of the installation the nmost recent one is the Age of Empires 3 Demo, the only infomation the Installshield gives me for the Age of Empires 3 Demo about the error is: 1628: faled to complete installation. What im wanting to know is there anyway to extract the files from the installer and manually copy them (install) myself or if anyone knows of a possible fix. Thanks in advance.

have you checked the minimum requirments for the game?
IF so go to the file source aka the developer and try and downolad it again it might be a corrupted install file. another question i have to find out what compression utitity do you use and more important does it have a test archive utility? i have zipgenius which allows me to test archives to see if they have errors it works on .exe files as well.

You could try updating installshield.

If nothing works on trying to get it all fixed, then the demos might just be bad. I downloaded a bunch of demos before, and more than half of them did not work, simply because demos are just not reliable.
Did you download the F.E.A.R. demo? If you did and it doesn't work, then it might be a different problem; that demo is pretty reliable in my experience. |

Actually, now in hindsight, see if you can try out the Warcraft III demo instead of F.E.A.R. It's smaller and has lower system requirements, and is just as if not more stable than the F.E.A.R. demo.

You can find anything you want about games at www.gamespot.com.
Just search for your Game (Warcraft III), make sure you select the original version/edition (not an expansion), make sure you select the PC version (if it has a console version), and on the game's first page it has the demo there. To download a demo or something, all you need is a membership with the website, which is free (you get extra stuff if you pay though, but it's not necessary at all). You don't have to wait in line, and if you have a file downloading program that can segment the file, then you can definitely download at the fastest rate you can (I can download stuff from there at 180KBytes/s, at least.) Even without a downloading program, it still goes pretty fast. I'm not sure why you would need the full version to try out the demo...that makes no sense! I'm pretty sure I downloaded the demo and that it worked fine for me, and I don't have Warcraft anything. The Warcraft III page is http://www.gamespot.com/pc/strategy/...q=Warcraft+III and the demo is right there. You should try it, I think. Last edited by Baskervore; 09-26-2005 at 03:04 PM. |

Well ive tryed signing up to Gamespot but it says all 6 email addresses ive tryed are in use..
...so if you could recomend any other small games i could D/L from somewhere else that would be good. And if anyone else has any ideas how to fix this problem i have with installshield it would be great. |

Try this. Disconnect from the internet. shutdown firewall, antivirus, anything else running in your system tray, close all open programs, then try the install. Something else that is running could be causing the problem, Macafee is one thing that will cause install issues with other programs. If it doesn't work just reboot and reconnect to the internet, and nothing lost but a little time.
